From Provence to Australia — The Story Behind Our French Olive Oils 🇫🇷🫒

An exceptional taste of Provence has arrived at Steph's Gourmet Foods.

They're finally here!

After weeks of anticipation, I am delighted to introduce three beautiful French olive oils from Moulin d'Éguilles, in the heart of Provence, France.

As a proud Frenchman who has called Australia home for more than 30 years, bringing a little piece of my homeland to your table is something very special to me.

And what better way to celebrate the flavours of southern France than with beautiful Provençal olive oil?

A Provençal Tradition Dating Back Centuries

The story of Moulin d'Éguilles stretches back to the 18th century.

In 1727, olive oil was produced using traditional millstones powered by donkeys — a wonderful reminder of how deeply olive cultivation is woven into the history of Provence.

Over the generations, the mill has evolved, combining traditional knowledge with modern production methods.

Today, more than 5,200 olive growers bring their harvests to the mill, continuing a remarkable regional tradition.

For me, this is what makes French regional food so fascinating. Behind every exceptional product, there are generations of knowledge, craftsmanship and passion.

Three Olive Oils, Three Distinct Personalities

I have personally selected three beautiful oils, each offering a different expression of Provence.

🫒 Fruité Vert — Fresh, Vibrant and Full of Character

Made in the green-fruity style, this extra virgin olive oil celebrates the lively character of olives harvested while still green.

Expect fresh vegetal notes and a pleasant peppery finish.

Steph's suggestion: Drizzle over fresh tomatoes, grilled vegetables, salads or simply enjoy with crusty sourdough bread.

🫒 Olives Maturées — Smooth, Mellow and Elegant

A traditional Provençal style produced from matured olives, offering a softer, rounder flavour profile.

This is a lovely choice for those who enjoy olive oil without an overpowering peppery finish.

Steph's suggestion: Beautiful with roasted vegetables, potatoes, fish or a simple Provençal vegetable dish.

🏅 AOP Aix-en-Provence — A Taste of French Heritage

Our third selection proudly carries the AOP Aix-en-Provence designation and displays a gold medal from the Concours Général Agricole in Paris.

AOP — Appellation d'Origine Protégée — identifies products whose origin and production are linked to a recognised geographical region and its traditions.

It is a wonderful expression of the heritage and craftsmanship of Provence.

Steph's suggestion: Enjoy with warm bread, roasted vegetables or a beautiful Mediterranean-inspired meal.

From Provence to Your Australian Table

These oils have travelled a long way to reach us, and seeing them finally arrive at Steph's Gourmet Foods has been a particularly special moment.

I believe great food is about more than ingredients. It is about the people who produce it, the places it comes from and the pleasure of sharing it with family and friends.

Whether you're preparing a simple salad, a Sunday lunch or a special dinner, a beautiful olive oil can make all the difference.

A Very Limited Arrival

We have received only a small quantity of each variety, making this first shipment particularly special.

Our French olive oils are now available through Steph's Gourmet Foods, and we are also planning to bring them to our upcoming markets.

If you love discovering authentic regional French products, I invite you to explore this collection.
